Senior Accountant (Health Plan Accounting/PST) – REMOTE

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential health plan organization seeking a Senior Accountant to support their Texas operations. This is a fully remote position requiring strong technical accounting expertise, month-end close experience, and proficiency in both GAAP and statutory reporting. You'll play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with GAAP and statutory reporting requirements
• Generate income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, and various accounting reports
• Analyze monthly financial reports and maintain accurate transaction records in financial systems
• Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and cash balances to identify and resolve discrepancies
• Complete quarterly and annual statutory financial statements in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)
• Support annual audit processes by preparing requested schedules and documentation
• Track direct costs and cost of goods sold, prepare accruals, and validate supporting documentation
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, research variances, and resolve reconciling items within deadlines
• Calculate, record, and monitor cost allocations and amortization schedules
• Prepare and analyze administrative expense accruals for accurate period-end reporting
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to validate assumptions and improve reporting accuracy
• Maintain organized workpapers, schedules, and documentation while managing multiple priorities

What We're Looking For

Required:

• At least 3 years of accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business
• Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
• Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables)
• Proficiency with applicable accounting software programs

Preferred:

• Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting in a multi-entity environment
• Healthcare, insurance, managed care, or health plan accounting background
• Experience with Oracle, Workday, SAP, or similar ERP systems
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
