About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential independent game studio in their search for a Senior Game Designer. This is a remote position based in the United States, working with a lean, agile team on an upcoming PC simulation title. The studio operates with high autonomy and has a proven track record of successful releases in the gaming space.
Responsibilities
- Play a key role in setting creative direction for the game, including establishing game pillars, core design elements, and progression systems
- Develop simulation systems that blend player psychology expertise with mathematical logic to create interlocking mechanics and emergent gameplay
- Execute end-to-end design implementation, from paper prototyping and technical development through balancing and testing
- Work both independently and collaboratively with team members to deliver design solutions
- Build and maintain complex automated spreadsheets to simulate, balance, and validate progression curves and resource economies
- Implement designs directly in Unity engine and partner with engineers to develop custom tools
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of game design experience, including shipping at least one title from early prototype through launch
- Expertise in systems design with proven ability to architect dynamic rule sets rather than linear scripts
- Deep understanding of how game variables interact and cascade to create emergent gameplay experiences
- Strong grasp of player psychology and what motivates engagement
- Advanced skills in building mathematical models and simulation spreadsheets for game economies and progression
- Hands-on proficiency with Unity engine and ability to implement designs directly
- Working knowledge of game engine systems and ability to collaborate with engineers on tooling
- Self-directed work style with ability to thrive in a remote, autonomous environment
