Get A Job.ai is representing a rapidly growing payments technology company in their search for a Controller. Our client is an established mid-market platform serving enterprise customers across global markets. This is a high-impact leadership role for an accounting professional who wants to shape financial operations at a scaling technology business.

Reporting to the VP of Finance, you'll lead the accounting function and drive modernization of systems and processes. The business model includes both subscription and usage-based revenue streams with complex revenue recognition requirements, creating accounting challenges that go well beyond typical SaaS environments. You'll have meaningful autonomy to build scalable operations, implement automation, and leverage AI tools to eliminate manual work.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full accounting function with responsibility for accurate books, timely closes, and financial statement preparation
• Oversee core accounting areas including AR, AP, payroll, revenue recognition, treasury, tax compliance, and audit coordination
• Own and continuously improve the accounting systems stack (NetSuite, billing platforms, expense management tools), ensuring data integrity across integrations
• Assess current workflows and implement practical automation and AI-enabled processes to reduce manual effort
• Build scalable processes and controls that support company growth, including SOC 2 and audit readiness
• Navigate complex accounting for usage-based contracts, including commitments, overages, and billing in arrears
• Review customer contracts for revenue recognition impact under ASC 606, partnering with Legal and Sales on sensitive contract terms
• Lead and develop the accounting team, determining optimal structure and building individual capabilities
• Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, Revenue Operations, and Business Operations on contracts and strategic decisions
• Manage annual financial statement audits and tax examinations, coordinating with external advisors
• Oversee corporate tax compliance across income, sales/use, and other filing requirements

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Active CPA certification
• Proven accounting leadership and people management experience
• Experience owning a broad accounting function rather than a narrow specialty
• SaaS accounting background
• Demonstrated success implementing systems and process automation
• Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) or AI-enabled workflows to improve accounting operations
• Strong technical knowledge of close management, financial reporting, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and core accounting operations
• Ability to operate autonomously and move quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills
• Current legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Valued Additional Experience:

• Fintech or payments industry background
• Experience with usage-based or consumption-based business models
• Startup, SMB, or mid-market environment where you owned wide-ranging accounting responsibilities
• Big Four experience combined with hands-on systems and process ownership
• Direct experience with usage-based billing platforms or modern spend management tools
