Overview
We are representing a confidential engineering and design firm seeking a Senior Architect to lead mission-critical data center projects across the United States. This is a specialist role for an architect who excels at designing high-availability, power-dense environments that form the backbone of modern digital infrastructure. You will anchor multidisciplinary teams, integrate complex cooling and power systems into sustainable designs, and own the design lifecycle from schematic phases through construction administration. If you thrive at the intersection of modular infrastructure and resilient design, we want to connect with you.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead architectural design and technical documentation for large-scale data center projects, including site planning, core/shell, white space, and support area configurations
- Develop comprehensive Basis of Design documents, programming, and site-fit analyses prioritizing power density, tiered redundancy, and modular expansion
- Serve as technical lead during milestone presentations and design charrettes, translating operational requirements into actionable architectural solutions
- Develop and maintain BIM models using Revit, coordinate federated models across disciplines, and perform clash detection with Navisworks
- Interpret and apply IBC, NFPA, TIA-942 data center standards, and local codes to ensure regulatory compliance
- Lead cross-discipline coordination with electrical, mechanical, process/piping, fire protection, structural, civil, and IT/telecom teams
- Prepare and review construction documents, specifications, and detail drawings for client review, approval, and permitting
- Conduct site assessments to verify existing conditions and optimize scalability and modular growth potential
- Lead quality control reviews, validate design deliverables, and mentor junior architects
- Coordinate submittal reviews, respond to RFIs, and manage package turnovers to meet project schedules
- Document design changes through formal change control processes to maintain client alignment
- Integrate sustainable design principles, supporting LEED documentation and energy-efficient material selections where applicable
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
- Licensed Architect with responsible charge authority; ability to obtain additional state registrations as needed
- Minimum twelve years of professional architectural experience, with the majority focused on mission-critical or data center facility design
- Deep understanding of scalable data center design principles including modular growth, tiered redundancy, and critical power and cooling infrastructure
- Thorough knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including IBC, NFPA, and TIA-942
- Strong technical communication skills for interfacing with clients, contractors, and internal discipline leads
- Experience mentoring junior architects and driving professional development within integrated project teams
Preferred qualifications:
- Direct exposure to hyperscale or colocation data center facilities and their unique design demands
- Experience delivering LEED-certified projects with familiarity in sustainable materials and energy-saving strategies
- Background supporting commissioning and startup phases, including constructability reviews and system testing coordination
- Awareness of project cost management and schedule constraints
