Product Engineer (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization based in Hamburg that is seeking a Product Engineer to join their growing tech team. This role is available on-site in Hamburg or remotely for the right candidate.

In this position, you'll combine strong technical capabilities with product thinking to build AI-powered tools and features that deliver real value. You'll own features end-to-end—from scoping and design through development, deployment, and successful adoption—leveraging AI at every stage to build smarter solutions faster.

Responsibilities

• Own product development from concept to production deployment, delivering complete solutions that create measurable business value across frontend and backend
• Transform stakeholder product ideas and requirements into compelling solutions by understanding user needs and underlying business processes
• Design and integrate AI-powered features into the platform, identifying opportunities where AI can accelerate workflows, improve decisions, or enable entirely new capabilities
• Develop robust data models and scalable architectures that serve as reliable foundations, creating reusable components like UI elements, data import processes, and AI pipelines
• Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels—from leadership to operational teams—to align priorities and drive successful adoption of new tools and features
• Gather early feedback, iterate in short cycles, and stay current with new technologies and engineering best practices to keep systems competitive

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• 5-8 years of professional software development experience with strong product understanding
• Solid experience with TypeScript and modern React applications; backend development experience with Node.js, Express or comparable technologies, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, and practical SQL knowledge
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks and agentic AI systems, plus strong data modeling skills and experience building scalable system architectures
• Hands-on experience integrating AI into products—such as structured data extraction, automation, RAG, or agentic workflows—beyond just using AI coding assistants
• Strong engineering quality mindset with experience developing reliable, maintainable products secured by appropriate testing
• Ability to work effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments with shifting priorities
• Strong communication skills and experience collaborating with stakeholders at all levels to drive adoption of solutions
• Proactive work style with high degree of ownership, independence, and initiative
• Fluent English required; German is a plus

Nice to have:

• Experience with LLM tools and technologies including provider APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini), agent and tool-use patterns, and output quality evaluation
• Familiarity with vector search technologies like pgvector
• Practical experience with product analytics and observability tools like PostHog or Sentry
• Experience integrating ERP or operational systems for orders, inventory, or master data
• Professional background in e-commerce, wholesale, or B2B platforms
• Python knowledge for data tooling plus experience with Docker, GitHub Actions, and AWS
