Principal Java Backend Engineer

Your Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable backend systems using Java, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability at scale
• Lead the technical vision for backend infrastructure and establish best practices across development teams
• Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
• Review and improve code quality, system design, and engineering processes across projects
• Collaborate with product, DevOps, and frontend teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural risks
• Drive adoption of modern development practices, tools, and methodologies within the backend team

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of professional Java development experience, with proven expertise in backend systems and microservices architecture
• Deep knowledge of Java ecosystems, frameworks, and best practices for building production-grade applications
• Strong experience with cloud platforms, containerisation, and distributed systems
• Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring technical teams and driving engineering culture
• Excellence in system design, API development, database optimisation, and scalability patterns
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tools
• Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
