High School Family Advocate

Career Prep High Schools in Akron, Summit County seeks a dedicated High School Family Advocate to join our team. In this full-time position, you'll be the bridge between students, families, and our school community—ensuring every young person feels supported and stays engaged in their education.

Role Overview

As a High School Family Advocate, you are committed to the complete well-being of students and their families. You recognize that education thrives when families are informed, involved, and connected. Your role is to foster those connections, remove barriers to student success, and serve as an unwavering advocate for young people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Working in Akron, you'll make a direct impact on students' lives while helping families navigate school resources and support systems.

Core Duties

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with students and their families through regular outreach and meaningful conversations
• Follow up on student absences and engagement concerns with genuine care and persistence
• Coordinate resources and connect families with social services, counseling, and academic support programs
• Communicate consistently with families about student progress, celebrations, and areas where additional support may help
• Advocate for individual student needs within school systems and with external partners
• Maintain detailed records and documentation of family interactions and support provided

• Genuine empathy and a nurturing approach to building trust with students and families
• Excellent communication skills—able to listen actively and speak clearly across diverse audiences
• Reliability and follow-through; you don't let issues or people slip through the cracks
• Experience working with youth, families, or communities in a support or advocacy role
• Ability to manage multiple relationships and priorities while maintaining confidentiality
• Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant professional experience may be considered
