Custom Silicon Applications Engineer – Camera Hardware

We're seeking a Custom Silicon Applications Engineer – Camera Hardware to join Apple's Camera Hardware Engineering group in Monte Vista, Santa Clara County. You'll help design and develop the imaging systems that define the photography and videography experience across Apple's product line.

The Opportunity

The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for advancing optical and sensor innovation from conception through mass production. As a Custom Silicon Applications Engineer, you'll work at the convergence of hardware architecture, silicon design, and real-world image quality. This full-time role challenges you to solve complex technical problems that directly shape how millions of people capture and experience their moments.

What You'll Do

• Architect and optimize camera hardware systems integrated with Apple's custom silicon platforms
• Develop detailed hardware specifications and performance models for imaging sensors, optical subsystems, and signal processing pipelines
• Partner cross-functionally with silicon, firmware, and software engineers to bring camera systems from design to production
• Execute hardware validation, testing, and failure analysis to meet Apple's performance and reliability requirements
• Assess emerging camera technologies and sensor innovations to enhance Apple's imaging capabilities
• Optimize hardware designs for power consumption, thermal behavior, and mechanical constraints

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in camera systems, imaging sensors, optical design, or adjacent hardware engineering disciplines
• Hands-on experience with silicon design methodologies, hardware specification, or camera architecture
• Proficiency with hardware design tools, simulation platforms, and validation techniques
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with comfort working in multidisciplinary teams
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent professional experience
• Background in image signal processing, sensor characterization, or optical systems is valued
