Fairfax County Public Schools seeks a dedicated Elementary School Counselor to lead comprehensive counseling services that foster academic achievement, emotional well-being, and career readiness for students in an elementary school setting across our district in Virginia.

About the Role

This full-time position provides direct counseling services that support the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally. You'll design and deliver a proactive counseling program addressing student needs while collaborating across your school community to create a supportive learning environment.

What You'll Do

• Deliver individual and small-group counseling services to address academic struggles, behavioral concerns, and social-emotional development
• Implement school-wide counseling initiatives and classroom lessons on topics including problem-solving, conflict resolution, and self-awareness
• Support students experiencing crisis, trauma, or significant life transitions with immediate intervention and referral coordination
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and specialists to develop targeted interventions and monitor student progress
• Participate in IEP team meetings and transition planning for students with special education needs, ensuring services align with individualized goals
• Maintain confidential, organized documentation of counseling activities and student progress using division systems
• Partner with families through individual consultations and school events to strengthen home-school connections and student support networks
• Contribute to data collection and program evaluation that demonstrates the impact of counseling services on student outcomes

What We're Looking For

• Virginia School Counselor credential or equivalent professional certification
• Strong understanding of child development, learning theory, and evidence-based counseling practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, families, educators, and colleagues
• Ability to work with diverse student populations and remain sensitive to varied family and cultural backgrounds
• Proficiency with educational technology and data systems for tracking and reporting
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting student success and creating an inclusive school community
