Senior Applied Scientist, Annapurna ML

Amazon is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist to join the Annapurna ML team in Cupertino, Santa Clara County. In this role, you'll bridge artificial intelligence innovation and compiler technology to drive measurable improvements in code quality and model optimization across one of our most advanced deep learning platforms.

About the Role

The Annapurna ML team develops a cutting-edge deep learning compiler stack that powers optimization of machine learning models across diverse applications and domains. As a Senior Applied Scientist, you'll be at the forefront of combining program analysis techniques with machine learning methodologies to enhance our compiler's capabilities and elevate overall system performance and reliability.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement algorithmic solutions that apply AI-driven insights to program analysis and compiler optimization
• Research and develop novel approaches to improve code quality within our deep learning compiler infrastructure
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate machine learning models into compiler workflows
• Work with major frameworks and model architectures, including PyTorch, large language models, and computer vision models
• Benchmark and validate optimization strategies across diverse model types and deployment scenarios
• Mentor junior scientists and engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Demonstrated expertise in machine learning, with strong fundamentals in supervised and unsupervised learning techniques
• Deep knowledge of compiler design, program analysis, or related systems-level computer science domains
• Proficiency in Python and at least one systems-level programming language (C++, Rust, or similar)
• Published research or significant technical contributions in peer-reviewed venues or open-source projects
• Ability to design experiments rigorously, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience tackling ambiguous, high-impact challenges
