Legal Knowledge Engineer – Litigation

Latham & Watkins LLP is seeking a Legal Knowledge Engineer – Litigation to join its Grand Central, Manhattan office on a full-time basis. In this role, you will partner with litigation teams to design, maintain, and enhance the firm’s knowledge resources that support case strategy and delivery.

About the Role

The Legal Knowledge Engineer serves as a bridge between attorneys and information systems, ensuring that relevant precedents, pleadings, and research materials are accurately organized and readily accessible. You will work closely with partners, associates, and support staff to capture institutional knowledge and improve the efficiency of litigation workflows.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain litigation-specific knowledge bases, including matter templates, practice guides, and precedent libraries.
• Tag and classify documents using standardized taxonomies to enable fast retrieval and analytics.
• Collaborate with attorneys to identify knowledge gaps and create resources that address recurring litigation challenges.
• Support the implementation of search and analytics tools, providing training and guidance to practice groups.
• Monitor changes in court rules, legislation, and industry trends to update content and ensure compliance.
• Produce reports on usage metrics and recommend improvements to knowledge management processes.

What We're Looking For

• A bachelor’s degree; advanced paralegal certification or law degree preferred.
• Proven experience in legal knowledge management, document management, or litigation support within a law firm or corporate legal department.
• Strong understanding of litigation processes, pleadings, and discovery workflows.
• Proficiency with enterprise search platforms, content management systems, and metadata tagging.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate complex legal information into structured formats.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to work with diverse legal teams.
• Detail‑oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
