Latham & Watkins LLP seeks a motivated Associate to join our Liability Management practice across the United States. This full-time position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in complex insurance and risk matters while supporting Fortune 500 clients and major institutions navigating their most critical coverage and claims challenges.
About the Role
As a mid-level Associate in Liability Management, you'll serve as a trusted advisor on coverage analysis, policy interpretation, and claims resolution for corporate clients facing significant exposures. You'll work alongside experienced partners and counsel to advise on insurance strategy, evaluate policy language, and advocate for client interests in coverage disputes and claims negotiations.
What You'll Do
- Conduct detailed coverage analysis and provide written opinions on complex insurance policies for corporate and institutional clients
- Manage claims files, coordinate with insurers and defense counsel, and develop claims strategies aligned with client objectives
- Draft correspondence, demand letters, and coverage arguments presenting client positions to carriers and adjusters
- Perform legal research on coverage issues, policy trends, and insurance law developments across multiple jurisdictions
- Support litigation and settlements by analyzing coverage implications and coordinating with external counsel
- Work collaboratively with clients to assess risk exposures and structure insurance programs
- Contribute to firm publications, client alerts, and continuing legal education on liability management topics
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one US jurisdiction
- Three to five years of experience in insurance coverage, liability management, or related transactional and litigation practice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex policy language for diverse audiences
- Analytical mindset and attention to detail in reviewing contracts and policy documents
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and meet client deadlines
- Intellectual curiosity and commitment to professional development in insurance law
