About the Role

This full‑time position supports grassroots campaigns that address environmental justice concerns, focusing on water protection and community‑led advocacy. You will collaborate with local groups, help shape campaign strategies, and amplify resident voices in decision‑making processes.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain relationships with neighborhood associations, faith‑based groups, and environmental coalitions.
• Plan and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and outreach events to educate residents about water quality issues.
• Develop messaging materials, press releases, and social media content that highlight environmental justice impacts.
• Coordinate petition drives, letter‑writing campaigns, and public comment submissions to influence local and state policies.
• Track legislative and regulatory developments affecting water resources and advise the team on strategic responses.
• Support volunteer recruitment, training, and retention efforts to strengthen campaign capacity.
• Collect and analyze community feedback to refine outreach tactics and measure campaign effectiveness.
• Represent Clean Water Action at public hearings, town halls, and coalition meetings.

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated experience in community organizing, advocacy, or public engagement, preferably within environmental or social justice sectors.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, communicate clearly, and motivate diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in using outreach tools such as email platforms, social media, and basic data management software.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the principles of environmental justice.
• Self‑starter attitude with solid organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
• Familiarity with local government processes in Michigan is a plus, but not required.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within Washtenaw County and surrounding areas.
