Front Desk Patient Services Representative

Mercy Health Services is seeking a Front Desk Patient Services Representative to join its team in Smyrna, Rutherford County.

About the Role

As the first point of contact for patients and visitors, you will help create a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring the front office runs smoothly. Your work supports the delivery of compassionate care and contributes to the overall patient experience.

What You'll Do

• Greet patients, visitors, and staff with a courteous and professional demeanor
• Check patients in and out, verify personal and insurance information, and update electronic health records
• Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments using the practice management system
• Answer incoming phone calls, direct inquiries, and take messages accurately
• Collect co‑pays, deductibles, and other payments; provide receipts and balance explanations
• Maintain a clean, organized reception area and ensure supplies are stocked
• Assist with administrative tasks such as faxing, filing, and preparing charts for clinical staff
• Uphold HIPAA regulations and safeguard patient confidentiality at all times
• Collaborate with nurses and physicians to facilitate patient flow and address service needs

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in medical office administration is a plus
• Previous experience in a healthcare front desk, patient services, or customer service role
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a friendly, approachable attitude
• Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) or electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and billing procedures
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm in a fast‑paced environment
• Comfort handling cash and processing payments accurately
• Commitment to maintaining patient privacy and adhering to HIPAA guidelines
