Oakland Schools seeks a dedicated Garden Kitchen Leader to join our Bloomfield Hills Schools team at Bowers Farm. This full-time, non-certified student support role offers the unique opportunity to inspire young people through hands-on gardening and culinary education in a meaningful, outdoor learning environment.

About the Role

As Garden Kitchen Leader at Bowers Farm, you'll oversee all aspects of our school garden and kitchen program, creating dynamic learning experiences that connect students to food production, nutrition, and sustainability. You'll work directly with students of various ages, developing their confidence and practical skills while fostering a genuine connection to growing and preparing nutritious food.

What You'll Do

• Plan and implement seasonal garden activities, including bed preparation, planting, maintenance, and harvesting
• Lead hands-on kitchen instruction focused on food preparation, nutrition education, and culinary techniques
• Develop lesson plans and learning objectives aligned with student development and school goals
• Manage garden tools, kitchen equipment, seeds, and supplies to ensure safe, organized operations
• Supervise and coordinate student volunteers and supporting staff in the garden and kitchen
• Maintain garden beds and kitchen facilities to health, safety, and cleanliness standards
• Document student progress and program activities for school records
• Collaborate with teachers and administrators to integrate garden and kitchen learning into school curriculum

What We're Looking For

• Genuine passion for gardening, cooking, and outdoor education
• Experience working with students in an educational, mentorship, or supervised setting
• Knowledge of seasonal gardening practices and basic nutrition principles
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of program quality
• Physical capability to perform outdoor work and lift moderate loads
