(TE19) ELA Teacher

Oakland Schools is hiring a full-time English/Language Arts teacher for South Lyon East High School in the South Lyon Community Schools district.

What This Role Involves

Join our team as a high school ELA teacher dedicated to developing student competency in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. You'll deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in English language arts, create meaningful classroom experiences, and guide students toward academic and personal growth through literature, composition, and communication.

Core Duties

• Design and deliver comprehensive ELA curriculum aligned with state and district standards
• Teach reading, writing, grammar, literature, and communication skills to high school students
• Create assessments and evaluate student learning through written assignments, projects, discussions, and exams
• Provide constructive feedback on student writing and oral presentations
• Differentiate instruction to support students with varied learning needs and ability levels
• Manage classroom expectations and foster a respectful, inclusive learning environment
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress
• Communicate with families about student performance and progress
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and professional learning

What You Bring

• Valid teaching credential in English/Language Arts or secondary education with ELA endorsement
• Deep knowledge of secondary literature, writing, rhetoric, and language arts content
• Proven ability to engage and motivate high school students
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience designing and implementing standards-based instruction and assessment
• Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning platforms
