Join American Electric Power as a Project Estimator supporting our Transmission Estimating Department. This full-time, onsite position is based in the Grandview Heights area of Franklin County, with the opportunity to work at either our Roanoke or New Albany office location.
About the Role
As a Project Estimator for AEP's transmission operations, you'll play a vital role in delivering accurate cost assessments for major infrastructure projects. You'll analyze project requirements, evaluate construction methodologies, and develop comprehensive budget forecasts that guide capital allocation decisions across our transmission network. Your work will directly support AEP's mission to deliver reliable energy to millions of customers across the U.S.
What You'll Do
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for transmission construction and infrastructure projects
- Analyze project specifications and scope to identify cost drivers and risk factors
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to validate assumptions and refine estimates
- Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost records, and benchmark data
- Perform feasibility analyses and develop alternative cost scenarios for project decision-making
- Document estimation methodologies and assumptions clearly for audit and review
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes for the transmission estimating department
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering, construction management, or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience in cost estimation or project estimating, preferably in utility, energy, or infrastructure sectors
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheet modeling, and project management tools
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively across departments and communicate complex cost information clearly
- Knowledge of transmission construction methodologies and materials is a plus
