Principal, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Tax

Join Baker Tilly as a Principal in our Mergers and Acquisitions Tax practice, based in our New York City office. We're seeking an experienced tax professional to lead complex transaction advisory engagements, guide senior team members, and drive strategic client relationships in the competitive M&A landscape.

About the Role

As Principal, you'll oversee high-value mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring transactions for mid-market to enterprise clients. This is a leadership position where your expertise in M&A tax strategy directly shapes outcomes for some of the region's most dynamic business deals.

What You'll Do

• Direct tax due diligence assessments and structure optimization for acquisitions and divestitures
• Develop and present tax strategies that maximize value for buyers and sellers across multi-jurisdictional transactions
• Mentor and supervise senior managers and managers within the M&A tax group, setting quality standards and building bench strength
• Maintain and expand key client relationships, serving as the principal point of contact for strategic tax matters
• Lead proposal development and pitch presentations to prospective M&A clients
• Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and delivery timelines across concurrent engagements
• Stay current with evolving tax law, IRS guidance, and transaction structures relevant to M&A

What We're Looking For

• CPA license required; JD or LLM in tax strongly preferred
• 12+ years of progressive experience in M&A tax advisory, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or supervisory capacity
• Deep knowledge of corporate tax structure, cross-border transactions, and deal economics
• Proven ability to manage complex engagements and lead high-performing teams
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax audiences
• Strategic mindset and business acumen; experience pitching and selling advisory services
• Commitment to professional development and thought leadership in M&A tax
