OHS Unified Head Basketball Coach

Othello School District #147 is hiring a Head Basketball Coach for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time position in Othello, Adams County is your opportunity to lead a high school basketball program, develop student-athletes' skills and character, and build a culture of competitive excellence and teamwork.

About the Role

As Head Basketball Coach, you'll be the primary leader responsible for all aspects of the program—from on-court instruction to player development, team strategy, and communication with athletic administration. You'll mentor young athletes not just in basketball fundamentals, but in discipline, resilience, and the values that define championship teams and well-rounded individuals.

What You'll Do

• Teach comprehensive basketball instruction covering rules, regulations, equipment, proper technique, and game strategy
• Plan and conduct individual and small-group practice sessions focused on skill development and team performance
• Evaluate player abilities, monitor progress throughout practices and competitions, and adjust coaching methods to meet diverse skill levels
• Supervise athletes during all team activities to ensure safe, productive engagement
• Communicate regularly with the Director of Athletics regarding team operations, player development, performance, and program needs
• Design game strategies and tactics to maximize competitive success
• Coordinate conditioning, strength, and injury-prevention protocols with athletic department staff
• Maintain compliance with school and athletic association regulations and model professional conduct

What We're Looking For

• Proven high school basketball coaching experience or equivalent competitive coaching background
• Strong command of basketball rules, strategy, technique, and player development principles
• Leadership ability to motivate, inspire, and build cohesion among diverse student-athletes
• Excellent communication skills with players, families, and school staff
• Genuine commitment to student safety, wellbeing, and academic achievement
• Organizational and administrative competence in managing practices, competitions, and program logistics
• Valid coaching certification or ability to obtain required district credentials
