Domestic Violence Advocate

The Cocoon Shelter is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Domestic Violence Advocate to join our team in Bowling Green, Wood County. This is a full-time position where you'll provide critical support to survivors of domestic violence, offering crisis intervention, advocacy, and pathways to safety and healing.

About the Role

As a Domestic Violence Advocate, you will be at the forefront of our mission to support survivors through their most vulnerable moments. You'll combine empathy with actionable support—connecting individuals to resources, navigating complex systems, and ensuring their voices are heard. This role requires someone who understands trauma, approaches each situation with sensitivity, and is committed to empowering survivors toward independence and safety.

What You'll Do

• Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors of intimate partner violence
• Conduct trauma-informed assessments and develop individualized safety plans
• Advocate on behalf of survivors in legal and medical settings
• Educate survivors about their rights, available resources, and options for moving forward
• Connect clients with housing, financial assistance, counseling, and other community services
• Facilitate support groups and peer-led programs for healing and community building
• Navigate both personal and systemic barriers to ensure survivors access the help they need
• Maintain detailed, confidential case documentation and participate in regular supervision

What We're Looking For

• Strong commitment to supporting domestic violence survivors with dignity and cultural humility
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and crisis intervention techniques
• Excellent communication and active listening skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
• Familiarity with local and national domestic violence resources and legal processes (preferred)
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for in-person client interactions
• Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in social services, counseling, or advocacy
