As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired with Assessment Intervention Management in Houston, TX, you will serve students whose visual challenges affect learning and daily functioning. Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Conduct formal and informal functional vision and learning media assessments to identify needs and recommend appropriate supports
• Deliver direct specialized instruction in braille reading and writing, tactile graphics, keyboarding, and assistive technology tools
• Design and implement individualized education program goals that address expanded core curriculum areas alongside academic access
• Collaborate regularly with general education teachers, parents, related service providers, and administrators to coordinate accommodations and classroom modifications
• Train students in the independent use of low-vision devices, screen readers, magnification software, and other access tools
• Document progress, maintain accurate records, and adjust intervention strategies based on ongoing data and student response
• Provide consultation to school staff on environmental arrangements, materials preparation, and visual efficiency techniques

Requirements

• Valid Texas educator certification with appropriate endorsement for Teacher of the Visually Impaired
• Demonstrated knowledge of braille codes, orientation concepts, and current assistive technologies used by students with visual impairments
• Experience conducting functional vision evaluations and integrating results into educational plans
• Strong ability to differentiate instruction, communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams, and maintain organized student documentation
• Commitment to fostering independence and self-advocacy among learners in Houston-area educational environments
