SY 26-27 Social Studies Teacher (History)

Lynchburg City Schools is hiring a full-time Social Studies Teacher (History) for Sandusky Middle School in Lynchburg for the 2026-2027 school year. We're seeking an experienced educator passionate about bringing history to life and developing critical thinkers prepared for high school and beyond.

About the Role

This full-time teaching position at Sandusky Middle School offers you the opportunity to design and deliver an engaging social studies curriculum centered on history. You'll inspire middle school students to understand historical events, analyze primary sources, and develop the analytical skills they need to succeed academically and civically.

What You'll Do

• Develop and implement a comprehensive history curriculum aligned with state standards and district guidelines
• Plan, prepare, and deliver dynamic lessons that engage diverse learners and accommodate varied learning styles
• Assess student understanding through formative and summative assessments, and adjust instruction accordingly
• Create a structured classroom environment that supports academic growth and responsible citizenship
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, attendance, and behavior
• Collaborate with fellow teachers to integrate cross-curricular content and support school initiatives
• Utilize educational technology and primary source materials to deepen student engagement
• Attend professional development opportunities and contribute to school-wide improvement efforts

What We're Looking For

• Valid teaching license in Social Studies with history focus, or eligibility for licensure in your state
• Demonstrated expertise in history and social studies content
• Proven ability to engage middle school learners and foster critical thinking
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, families, and colleagues
• Commitment to student-centered instruction and data-driven decision making
• Ability to create inclusive, supportive classroom environments for all learners
