Join Gestalt Community Schools as a Supervisor of Instruction – Social Studies/History, leading curriculum development and instructional excellence in our secondary Social Studies and History program. This part-time position is based in Hickory Hill, Shelby County, and reports to our Managing Director of Teaching and Learning.
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced educator to guide the strategic direction, implementation, and continuous enhancement of our Social Studies and History curriculum across grades 6–12. In this supervisory role, you'll serve as a catalyst for instructional innovation, ensuring our secondary social studies program meets rigorous academic standards while engaging students in meaningful historical and civic learning.
What You'll Do
- Oversee the design and refinement of Social Studies and History curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational standards and student learning objectives across the secondary grades
- Support teachers in the development of instructional materials, lesson plans, and assessments that foster deep understanding of historical concepts and social studies content
- Collaborate with the secondary teaching team to implement best practices in history and social studies instruction
- Monitor instructional quality and student achievement in Social Studies and History, identifying opportunities for program improvement
- Partner with the Managing Director of Teaching and Learning on school-wide academic initiatives and professional development
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making in the history and social studies department

- Proven experience in secondary education, with expertise in Social Studies, History, or related disciplines
- Demonstrated leadership in curriculum development, instructional coaching, or program management
- Strong understanding of pedagogical approaches that engage students in active historical thinking and civic engagement
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with educators and school leadership
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and access in education
