About the Role
As a Soccer Referee with the YMCA, you'll officiate matches ranging from youth leagues to recreational tournaments. Your role is essential in creating a positive, fair, and safe athletic environment for all participants. You'll uphold the laws of the game while fostering skill development and sportsmanship among players of all ages.
What You'll Do
- Officiate soccer matches with consistent application of the official rules and regulations
- Make fair, authoritative decisions on fouls, penalties, and scoring
- Communicate expectations and rules clearly to coaches, players, and parents before and during matches
- Maintain control of the match and manage player conduct professionally
- Prioritize player safety and intervene to prevent unsafe play immediately
- Document any incidents or concerns arising during matches
- Arrive prepared and conduct thorough pre-game setup and checks
What We're Looking For
- Strong working knowledge of soccer rules and match procedures
- Excellent communication and conflict-resolution abilities
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and impartial in competitive situations
- Physical fitness to manage the demands of running and officiating on the field
- Demonstrated experience working with youth or recreational sports
- Reliable transportation to reach our Chesapeake location consistently
- Genuine commitment to fair play and the athletic development of young people
