Social Worker III – Adult Protective Services

Johnston County is seeking a dedicated Social Worker III - Adult Protective Services to join the Department of Social Services in Smithfield, Johnston County. In this full-time, on-site role, you will help safeguard vulnerable adults and strengthen the families and community we serve.

About the Role

As a Social Worker III - Adult Protective Services with Johnston County, you will respond to concerns involving at-risk adults, conducting assessments and coordinating services that promote safety, dignity, and self-sufficiency. This position carries an advanced level of responsibility within adult protective casework and supports the broader mission of the Johnston County DSS to aid and protect those in need.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and evaluate reports concerning the welfare and protection of adults in the community.
• Carry out investigations and assessments to determine risk, need, and appropriate intervention.
• Develop, implement, and monitor service plans that support the health, well-being, and protection of vulnerable adults.
• Connect clients with human services programs and community resources that encourage self-sufficiency.
• Maintain accurate case records and documentation in line with state and county standards.
• Collaborate with families, agencies, and partners to preserve safety and quality of life.

Qualifications

• Education and experience that meet the requirements for the Social Worker III classification.
• Knowledge of social work principles, assessment methods, and protective services practice.
• Strong communication, documentation, and case-management skills.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment when working with vulnerable adults and sensitive situations.
• Commitment to serving the diverse needs of children, adults, and families within Johnston County.
