Senior Software Engineer

Workiva is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the AI Experiences and Integrations team, based in the United States (nationwide) (nationwide). This full-time position offers the opportunity to architect and implement cutting-edge front-end solutions for enterprise AI applications, working at the intersection of machine learning and user experience design.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer on our AI Experiences team, you'll lead the development of next-generation user interfaces that bring AI capabilities to life. You'll own the technical direction of our front-end architecture, delivering responsive, intelligent experiences that translate complex machine learning into intuitive, trustworthy interactions. Working alongside machine learning experts, product strategists, and design professionals, you'll shape how enterprise customers engage with AI-powered features—from real-time conversation interfaces to autonomous workflow systems to reasoning visualizations. Your technical decisions will directly impact how users interact with our platform and depend on our technology to drive their business forward.

What You'll Do

• Design and deploy front-end systems for AI-driven product surfaces, with emphasis on real-time streaming interactions, autonomous workflow management, and machine learning-assisted interfaces
• Build scalable technical approaches for integrating language model APIs, WebSocket communication, and Server-Sent Events into high-performance production systems
• Deliver production-grade TypeScript code that sets quality benchmarks and establishes architectural patterns for the engineering team
• Optimize for speed and responsiveness while managing the competing demands of performance, latency, and user satisfaction
• Contribute to architecture documentation and implementation roadmaps for new AI-powered capabilities
• Identify and resolve complex performance issues in client-side and distributed frontend environments
• Guide team growth through code review, technical mentorship, and advancement of front-end engineering practices

Who We're Looking For

• Minimum 2 years of professional front-end development experience in production environments
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
• Expert-level command of TypeScript and modern web frameworks such as React
• Working knowledge of event streams, asynchronous programming patterns, and state management
• Preferred: hands-on experience building interfaces for AI or generative AI applications
• Preferred: understanding of browser performance characteristics including long-lived connections, server-sent event streaming, and high-frequency DOM updates for real-time text rendering
• Preferred: experience bridging Dart and TypeScript front-end components
• Preferred: familiarity with AI-specific performance measurement, such as time-to-first-token metrics
• Preferred: experience with distributed cloud architectures and continuous delivery practices
