Senior Full Stack Engineer

About This Role

We are representing a confidential fintech organization building a modern financial platform across Europe. Our client is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join their team in Portugal.

This is an opportunity to build merchant-facing web experiences that directly support local businesses with their financial operations. You'll work on features spanning transfers, payments, account management, and authentication flows, taking ownership from frontend implementation through backend integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and delivery of scalable full stack features using React, TypeScript, and GraphQL, with ownership across frontend and backend integration
• Collaborate with product and design teams to translate complex financial workflows—including transfers, scheduled payments, and Strong Customer Authentication flows—into secure, end-to-end user experiences
• Build high-performance interfaces for transaction feeds, balances, statements, and multi-currency views with efficient data fetching and state management
• Develop and maintain GraphQL schemas, resolvers, and API integrations, ensuring type safety and consistency between frontend and backend
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with strong TypeScript practices across the full stack
• Participate in code reviews and help establish engineering best practices in a team evolving from mobile-first to web-capable
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and production issues to ensure reliable merchant experiences
• Stay current with frontend technologies and apply modern best practices to the platform

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of professional frontend/web development experience
• Expert-level TypeScript proficiency, including advanced type manipulation, generics, and complex type inference
• Strong proficiency in React.js with type-safe development practices
• Experience supporting backend services in Java and Spring Boot
• Extensive Next.js experience for server-side rendering, static site generation, and API routes with TypeScript
• Solid understanding of modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3
• Experience with state management libraries (Redux, Context API, Zustand) in TypeScript environments
• Strong experience consuming GraphQL APIs (e.g., Apollo Client) with typed API responses
• Understanding of web performance optimization techniques
• Experience with Git version control
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities across cross-functional teams

Preferred:

• Experience in fintech or banking web applications with secure interfaces including SCA/2FA, PSD2, and RBAC
• Proven ability to translate mobile-first products into responsive web experiences
• Practical use of AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate development
• Experience launching and localizing web products across multiple European markets
