Adelbrook is hiring a full-time Residential Support Counselor to join our team in Southington, Hartford County. This role is essential to our mission of providing compassionate, evidence-based care to young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

About the Role

As a Residential Support Counselor at our Southington House location, you'll be on the front lines of direct care delivery, creating a stable, nurturing environment where residents can thrive. You'll combine practical support with genuine human connection—helping young people develop skills, process emotions, and build confidence in a trauma-informed setting that prioritizes dignity and person-centered values.

What You'll Do

  • Provide daily living assistance and skill-building guidance in our residential community
  • Offer behavioral guidance and de-escalation support using evidence-based techniques
  • Engage residents in therapeutic activities and meaningful community experiences
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate observations with care teams
  • Monitor health, safety, and wellness while respecting individual autonomy
  • Support residents in building healthy routines and pursuing personal goals
  • Respond thoughtfully to behavioral or emotional crises with calm, trained intervention
  • Partner with supervisors and clinical staff to implement individualized care plans

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass background screening and reference checks
  • Physical and emotional capacity to support individuals with varying support needs
  • Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered care principles
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • Patience, empathy, and genuine passion for supporting young people with developmental differences
  • Reliable transportation to our Southington location
