Brex is hiring a Product and Regulatory Counsel to join our legal team in San Francisco, California. In this full-time role, you'll advise on compliance, regulatory strategy, and legal risk as we build and scale financial solutions for companies worldwide.
About the Role
As Product and Regulatory Counsel at Brex, you'll operate at the intersection of legal strategy and product development. You'll provide essential guidance to product teams on compliance, regulatory requirements, and legal risk—enabling innovation while ensuring our platform meets regulatory standards across the markets we serve. This position requires someone who can think like both a lawyer and a business partner.
What You'll Do
- Counsel product and engineering teams on regulatory requirements, legal implications, and compliance frameworks for new features and products
- Assess and manage legal and regulatory risks across Brex's corporate cards, banking services, spend management tools, bill pay, and travel solutions
- Develop compliance strategies and operational frameworks aligned with applicable financial services regulations
- Collaborate with compliance, finance, and business operations to ensure products stay within legal and regulatory boundaries
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements and partnership contracts
- Partner with internal stakeholders to evaluate regulatory implications of business decisions and market expansion
- Monitor evolving regulatory landscapes across the 200+ markets where Brex operates
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor degree and active bar license (any state)
- 5+ years of legal experience in fintech, financial services, or technology companies
- Strong background in financial services regulation, compliance, or product-focused legal counsel
- Knowledge of payments, banking, and consumer/commercial finance regulations
- Ability to explain complex legal and regulatory matters clearly to product, engineering, and business stakeholders
- Collaborative approach with strong cross-functional partnership skills
- Business-minded perspective that balances legal risk with speed and innovation
