About the Role

The Principal Risk Manager oversees critical risk strategy and compliance across Capital One's global payments network operations. You'll own accountability for identifying, assessing, and controlling risks that could impact transaction flows, customer safety, or regulatory standing. Working at the principal level means visibility across the entire organization and direct influence on executive-level decision-making.

What You'll Do

• Develop and implement comprehensive risk frameworks, policies, and controls specific to payments networks
• Lead cross-functional teams in risk identification, modeling, and mitigation strategies
• Monitor, analyze, and report on key risk indicators and emerging payment system vulnerabilities
• Collaborate with business, technology, and compliance leaders to embed risk management into operational decisions
• Ensure adherence to federal banking regulations, payment network rules, and internal governance standards
• Conduct risk assessments and stress testing of payment systems and third-party partnerships
• Present risk findings and recommendations to senior leadership and board-level oversight committees

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of experience in enterprise risk management, payments systems, or financial services
• Demonstrated expertise with payment networks, clearing houses, or ACH/wire transfer infrastructure
• Deep knowledge of banking regulations (OCC, Fed, FDIC requirements) and compliance frameworks
• Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring high-performing risk teams
• Master's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in risk modeling and financial data interpretation
• Excellent communication and executive presence across multiple stakeholder groups
