About the Role

As an Applied Researcher II at Capital One, you'll apply cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence to solve meaningful problems across our products and services. From flagging unusual account activity to delivering instant, conversational answers, your research will translate directly into automated experiences that customers rely on every day. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Pimmit, Fairfax County.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, design, and prototype machine learning and AI methods that strengthen real-time, automated customer experiences.
• Develop intelligent systems capable of detecting anomalies, such as out-of-pattern charges, and responding to customer needs as they happen.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and product partners to move research from concept into production.
• Contribute to building AI that is reliable, transparent, and trustworthy at scale.
• Stay current with emerging techniques and apply them responsibly within a regulated financial environment.

Qualifications

• A solid foundation in machine learning, applied research, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing ML models and bringing them toward real-world deployment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to turn experimental findings into practical applications.
• Comfort collaborating within multidisciplinary teams to deliver intelligent, customer-facing solutions.
