Medical Front Office – Patient Service Specialist – Float

Select Medical is seeking a dedicated Patient Service Specialist (Float) to join its medical front office team serving the greater Columbia, South Carolina area — a per-diem opportunity ideal for healthcare professionals who thrive in dynamic, multi-site environments.

About the Role

This PRN (as-needed) Patient Service Specialist position supports three outpatient clinic locations across Forest Acres, Columbia, and Lexington, SC. As a float staff member, you will rotate among all three centers as coverage needs arise. The role follows a set weekly schedule — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Compensation starts at $20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the first point of contact for patients arriving at Select Medical outpatient centers
• Manage front desk operations including patient check-in and check-out workflows
• Accurately collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information
• Schedule appointments and coordinate with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• Handle phone inquiries and direct calls to appropriate departments
• Maintain compliance with healthcare privacy regulations and front-office documentation standards
• Travel between the three Columbia-area clinic sites as the float coverage schedule requires

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a medical front office or patient-facing healthcare setting preferred
• Reliable personal transportation required — travel between Forest Acres, Columbia, and Lexington locations is a core requirement of this float position
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a patient-first mindset
• Familiarity with medical scheduling software or electronic health record systems is a plus
• Ability to work a structured Monday–Friday schedule across varying shift times
