About the Role
The Hospital Communications Representative operates our telephone systems and manages incoming communications across University of Washington Medical Center. You'll be the first point of contact for patients, families, visitors, and external callers, directing each one to the appropriate care team or department. This position requires flexibility, professional communication, and the ability to remain calm and focused during variable shift schedules in a dynamic healthcare environment.
What You'll Do
- Answer inbound telephone calls and greet callers in a professional, courteous manner
- Use PBX systems and call management technology to transfer calls to the correct departments, units, or personnel
- Record and relay messages accurately and promptly to ensure critical information reaches intended recipients
- Provide basic information about hospital departments, visiting hours, or general inquiries
- Manage multiple calls efficiently, prioritizing urgent requests while maintaining a welcoming tone
- Follow established protocols for transferring emergency and time-sensitive calls
- Support the hospital's commitment to patient and family satisfaction through professional communication
