University of Washington
The University of Washington is seeking a Research Scientist/Engineer 4 to advance cutting-edge structural biology aimed at developing vaccines and therapeutics against human pathogens. This full-time, on-site position is based in King County and supports an international research mission at the forefront of immunogen science.
About the Role
As a Research Scientist/Engineer 4 at the University of Washington, you will contribute to a research program focused on the structural and molecular characterization of viral glycoproteins. Your work will combine single particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-ray crystallography with computational and structure-guided immunogen design, drawing on virology, biochemistry, and biophysics to inform the next generation of vaccines and therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply structure-based and machine-learning approaches to design novel immunogens targeting human pathogens.
- Conduct single particle cryo-EM studies to resolve the architecture of viral glycoproteins.
- Perform X-ray crystallization and structure determination of protein targets of interest.
- Carry out biochemical and biophysical characterization to support immunogen development.
- Collaborate across virology and structural biology efforts to translate findings toward vaccine and therapeutic candidates.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in single particle cryo-electron microscopy and/or X-ray crystallography of macromolecules.
- Strong background in virology, biochemistry, and biophysics.
- Experience with structure-based and computational or machine-learning methods for protein and immunogen design.
- Ability to work independently and contribute within a collaborative, multidisciplinary research team.
