Head of Legal

Range, an AI-powered wealth management company headquartered in McLean, Fairfax County, is hiring a Head of Legal to lead and shape the legal function as the business scales. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity to build the legal backbone of a platform reimagining how people manage their financial lives.

About the Role

As Head of Legal at Range, you will own the company's legal strategy end to end, partnering closely with leadership across product, finance, and operations. Based in McLean, Fairfax County, you will translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance that lets a fast-moving fintech keep building with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the overall legal strategy and establish the policies, processes, and standards that govern the organization.
• Advise executives and cross-functional teams on regulatory, compliance, and risk matters specific to wealth management, investing, and financial services.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, vendor agreements, and partnership terms.
• Oversee corporate governance, intellectual property, employment matters, and data privacy considerations.
• Manage relationships with outside counsel and coordinate specialized legal support when needed.
• Monitor evolving regulations across investments, taxes, retirement, and estate planning to keep the platform compliant.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in good standing with a relevant state bar.
• Extensive legal experience, ideally including time in financial services, fintech, or a regulated industry.
• Strong command of the regulatory landscape touching investments, wealth management, and consumer financial products.
• Proven ability to lead a legal function, set priorities, and counsel senior stakeholders.
• Excellent judgment, communication, and the practical mindset to balance risk with business momentum.
