About the Role
As Assistant Director of Facilities, you'll oversee day-to-day operations and capital projects across our portfolio of residential and service delivery sites throughout New York City. This full-time position reports to the Director of Facilities and plays a critical role in ensuring our facilities consistently meet the needs of the 950-person staff and the thousands of individuals we serve annually across our $140 million operation.
What You'll Do
- Manage and coordinate facilities maintenance, repairs, and upgrades across multiple locations, ensuring building systems operate safely and efficiently
- Oversee vendor relationships, contracts, and performance; negotiate service agreements and manage maintenance budgets
- Lead facilities staff and coordinate with external contractors for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural work
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules and capital improvement plans aligned with organizational priorities
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and health department standards across all properties
- Monitor and manage utilities, energy efficiency initiatives, and environmental compliance
- Respond to facility emergencies and coordinate rapid resolutions to minimize service disruptions
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of facilities management experience, ideally in multi-site residential or non-profit settings
- Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance operations, and capital project management
- Experience managing budgets, vendors, and facility staff
- Familiarity with New York City building codes, housing authority requirements, and regulatory compliance
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in facilities management or related field
