Building Tomorrow is hiring a Global Head of Finance to lead financial strategy and day-to-day fiscal management across an international nonprofit advancing literacy and numeracy for children throughout East Africa.

About the Role

As Building Tomorrow's most senior finance leader, the Global Head of Finance steers the financial health of three connected entities—BT Inc. in the United States, BT Uganda, and BT Rwanda. Reporting to the Chief Dreamer and partnering closely with the COO and Board of Directors, you will pair high-level strategy with hands-on stewardship, turning organizational goals into fundable plans while safeguarding compliance and long-term sustainability. This full-time position is anchored in the organization's East Africa operations, with periodic travel to regional field offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a strategic finance partner to executive leadership and the Board, converting mission into measurable, fundable operating plans.
  • Build and maintain a multi-year, driver-based financial model spanning every entity, including unit economics, cost-to-serve analysis, and scenario planning for growth.
  • Direct accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations across the U.S., Uganda, and Rwanda, producing consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, donor regulations, and local statutory requirements, and lead annual audits including consolidated statements and IRS Form 990.
  • Design and monitor internal controls, treasury and cash-flow strategy, and foreign-exchange management across USD, UGX, and RWF.
  • Establish internal audit cadences and field-office spot checks, and maintain a Global Finance Manual standardizing practice organization-wide.
  • Oversee restricted grant and donor-funded budgets, own proposal costing, and serve as financial liaison to major donors and partners.
  • Mentor and strengthen the finance team while championing data-informed decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Proven senior finance leadership within a multi-entity or multi-country organization, ideally in the nonprofit or social-impact sector.
  • Deep command of GAAP, donor compliance, audit coordination, and statutory reporting across jurisdictions.
  • Experience designing financial models, budgets, internal controls, and treasury strategy in complex, mission-driven settings.
  • A collaborative leader equally comfortable analyzing data, coaching teams, and engaging board members and donors.

Focus on multi-entity consolidation, IFRS/GAAP judgment, grant and restricted-fund accounting, treasury/FX across East Africa and the U.S., and board-level financial storytelling. No certifications are listed for this role.

Bring examples of scaling finance across countries, tightening close or grant reporting, and handling audit or donor scrutiny. Ask how finance partners with programs in Rwanda and Uganda and what U.S. entity obligations require.

Best fit if you have led finance across borders, are fluent in grant-heavy or multi-entity models, and can set standards across three geographies without remote-only flexibility assumed.
