Canonical is hiring a remote Product Manager – AI to shape the future of open source artificial intelligence for enterprises across the United States. If you pair a software engineering foundation with a drive to translate technical vision into market-leading products, this is your opportunity to help define how the world deploys open source AI.

About the Role

As a Product Manager – AI at Canonical, you will own the strategic direction of open source AI and machine learning products built on Ubuntu. This is a leadership track for technologists who want to grow into business executives and entrepreneurs while advancing the open source community. You will set a clear product vision, prioritise ruthlessly, and guide cross-functional teams to ship high-quality solutions that satisfy both user needs and commercial objectives. During interviews, we will match your interests to a specific product, which may span AI/ML and MLOps domains such as model lifecycle management, AIOps automation, Kubeflow, MLflow, KServe, and AI infrastructure spanning cloud and edge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the full product lifecycle from concept to delivery, continually revisiting goals and priorities.
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, marketing, and sales to align decisions and keep execution on track.
  • Run market research, study industry trends, and collect customer feedback to surface new opportunities.
  • Communicate vision, progress, and key decisions clearly to maintain alignment and set expectations.
  • Lead usability testing, interpret user feedback, and iterate to sharpen the user experience.
  • Shape go-to-market strategies, author product documentation, and equip support teams through training.
  • Support sales in winning new business by joining customer meetings and acting on their feedback.
  • Oversee an entire product line, ensuring consistent strategy and resolving conflicts across teams.

Qualifications

  • Outstanding academic achievement at both secondary school and university level.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and the broader open source software ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with computer architecture, application development, datacenters, cloud, or device technologies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical vision with a passion for product strategy.

About this role & career path

An AI product manager at a Ubuntu-centric firm typically builds experience at the intersection of open source, cloud platforms, and ML-enabled product lines—useful for later staff PM, platform, or technical product leadership paths in infrastructure software.

Build the skills for this role

Pair those with hands-on AI product framing: problem discovery, prioritization, and stakeholder communication for open-source/commercial dual models.

    Free & low-cost learning resources

    • Explain how you’d prioritize AI capabilities on a Linux/cloud product with both community and paying customers.
    • Walk a discovery → MVP → iteration story for a technical B2B audience.
    • Discuss trade-offs between open collaboration and commercial support offerings Canonical is known for.

Strong fit if you enjoy product work on foundational software (Ubuntu/open source) and can translate AI opportunities into clear, shippable scope for global, distributed engineering—not if you need on-site U.S. city detail or published pay bands (none in DATA).
