Director of Interior Design

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services firm founded in 1900, is seeking a Director of Interior Design for our Schiller Park office in Cook County. This full-time leadership position offers the opportunity to shape the interior design vision for complex, high-impact projects across multiple industry sectors.

About the Role

As Director of Interior Design, you'll lead strategic design initiatives and oversee the development of innovative interior spaces for clients across aviation, federal facilities, food and beverage processing, transportation, water infrastructure, and other specialized sectors. You'll manage all phases of projects from initial concept through construction administration, working alongside architects, engineers, and construction teams to bring cohesive, functional designs to life.

What You'll Do

• Provide creative and strategic leadership for the interior design practice
• Manage portfolio of large-scale projects with multiple stakeholders and complex requirements
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of interior designers at varying career levels
• Develop comprehensive design strategies that balance client needs, user experience, sustainability, and budget constraints
• Present design concepts and manage client relationships throughout project delivery
• Ensure compliance with building codes, ADA standards, and industry regulations
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate design seamlessly with architectural and engineering systems
• Maintain knowledge of emerging design practices, materials, and sustainable solutions

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or closely related field; professional credentials (IIDA, ASID, or equivalent) valued
• Minimum 10 years of interior design experience with at least 5 years in a director or senior leadership role
• Demonstrated success managing major projects across diverse market sectors
• Strong design portfolio showcasing quality, creativity, and project range
• Proficiency with industry-standard software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or comparable tools)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to lead presentations
• Solid understanding of building codes, accessibility requirements, and construction methodologies
• Leadership mindset with experience developing and motivating design teams
