Director of Bursar Operations

The University of New Orleans is hiring a full-time Director of Bursar Operations to lead its student accounts function on campus in New Orleans, Orleans Parish.

About the Role

As Director of Bursar Operations, you will serve as the senior administrator responsible for all aspects of student billing, payment processing, and account management at the University of New Orleans. This is a hands-on leadership position that shapes the financial experience of UNO students from enrollment through graduation, while maintaining rigorous compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements.

What You'll Do

• Direct the daily operations of the Bursar's Office, including student billing cycles, fee assessment, payment collection, and account reconciliation
• Oversee disbursement of financial aid refunds and ensure accurate, timely processing in accordance with Title IV regulations
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve policies and procedures governing student account management
• Supervise, train, and evaluate Bursar's Office staff, fostering a service-oriented culture that supports student success
• Administer third-party and employer billing programs, coordinating with sponsors and agencies on outstanding balances
• Collaborate closely with Financial Aid, the Registrar, Accounting, and IT to ensure seamless data integrity across student information systems
• Manage collections activity on delinquent accounts in compliance with applicable regulations and institutional policy
• Produce financial reports and analysis for senior leadership and support internal and external audit processes
• Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex student account inquiries and disputes

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field; master's degree preferred
• Progressively responsible experience in bursar, student accounts, or higher education financial operations
• Working knowledge of Title IV federal student aid regulations and higher education billing practices
• Experience managing staff and leading operational teams in a university or college environment
• Proficiency with student information systems such as Banner, PeopleSoft, or equivalent enterprise platforms
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to translate complex financial information for diverse audiences
