Instrumentation and Controls Project Engineer – Data Center (Remote)

Olsson seeks an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Project Engineer to support our team in Springfield, Sangamon County. This full-time, remote position offers the opportunity to design, implement, and manage instrumentation and control systems for critical data center infrastructure projects.

About the Role

As an Instrumentation and Controls Project Engineer, you will take ownership of complex projects that enhance the reliability, efficiency, and monitoring capabilities of data center facilities. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to translate client needs into robust technical solutions, oversee project execution from concept through commissioning, and ensure systems perform to specification.

What You'll Do

• Design and specify instrumentation systems, control architectures, and monitoring solutions for data center environments
• Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules; manage timelines and coordinate with contractors and vendors
• Create technical documentation including control narratives, loop diagrams, and system specifications
• Conduct site assessments and collaborate with facility teams to integrate new systems with existing infrastructure
• Oversee commissioning, testing, and validation of instrumentation and control systems
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff and support continuous improvement initiatives

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, or related discipline) or equivalent professional experience
• Proven experience designing and managing instrumentation or building automation control systems
• Familiarity with data center infrastructure, HVAC systems, or power distribution systems
• Strong project management skills with ability to lead cross-functional teams
• Proficiency with control system platforms and design tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
