Position Summary

The Damage Prevention Technician III role with Zayo in the TX - Dallas area centers on advanced utility protection work that keeps critical lines free from accidental strikes during construction activity. This full-time, on-site position requires seasoned judgment to interpret complex locate requests, apply accurate markings, and support safe excavation across the local service footprint. Day-to-day efforts contribute directly to network reliability while pursuing continuous improvement in field accuracy and stakeholder communication.

What You'll Do

• Receive and prioritize damage-prevention tickets for the TX - Dallas territory, then travel to sites to identify and mark buried facilities with paint, flags, and electronic instruments.
• Operate advanced locating equipment, GPS tools, and mapping software to confirm depths, routes, and facility types before excavation begins.
• Conduct thorough site assessments, document conditions, and issue clear hand-offs or clearance instructions to contractors and excavators.
• Mentor junior technicians, review completed locates for quality, and escalate high-risk digs according to established protocols.
• Perform routine equipment calibration, maintain accurate records of completed tickets, and collaborate with internal operations teams on process enhancements.
• Observe all applicable safety standards and local damage-prevention regulations while representing Zayo professionally in the field.

Who We're Looking For

• Progressive experience performing utility locating or damage-prevention duties, including work at a senior Technician III level.
• Demonstrated skill with electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar, and digital mapping or ticket-management platforms.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable ability to navigate varied outdoor sites throughout the TX - Dallas region in all weather conditions.
• Strong understanding of one-call systems, excavation safety practices, and current industry locating standards.
• Physical capacity for walking extended distances, bending, lifting equipment, and remaining alert during independent field shifts.
• Clear communication skills for coordinating with contractors, documenting findings, and coaching less-experienced team members.
