About This Position
The Bus Monitor - Special Needs position is a full-time role with the Dunlap School District #323 Transportation department, working four hours per day at $15.50 per hour. You'll report directly to the Director of Transportation and work alongside experienced bus drivers to create a calm, secure environment for students during transit. This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about supporting vulnerable student populations and committed to excellence in student safety.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus while supporting the driver in managing student conduct
- Assist students with special needs during boarding, seating, and exiting procedures
- Monitor student behavior and address safety concerns with patience and professionalism
- Communicate effectively with drivers and school staff regarding student needs and any incidents
- Ensure all students are seated properly and secured as required by district policy
- Respond with compassion and understanding to students' behavioral and emotional needs
