Band Director/Lâche Pas Teacher (Cultural Music and Art)

Vermilion Parish Schools is seeking a full-time Band Director and Cultural Music & Arts Teacher (Lache Pas Program) for JH Williams Middle School. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire young musicians and nurture their artistic talents while supporting student growth through cultural music education.

About the Role

As Band Director and Cultural Music & Arts Teacher, you'll lead the school's instrumental music program and teach cultural music appreciation across grade levels. This full-time position combines classroom instruction with performance preparation, fostering technical musicianship, creative expression, and cultural awareness in middle school students.

What You'll Do

• Direct the middle school band, developing rehearsal plans and performance standards that build student confidence and musical competence
• Teach cultural music history, world music traditions, and the role of music in diverse communities
• Prepare students for concerts, competitions, and public performances throughout the school year
• Create engaging lesson plans that integrate music theory, listening skills, and ensemble techniques
• Build a positive, inclusive classroom culture where all students feel welcomed to participate
• Collaborate with colleagues to integrate the arts across the curriculum and support school events
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support musical growth

What We're Looking For

• Valid Louisiana teaching certificate or equivalent in music education or band direction (or willingness to pursue licensure)
• Strong knowledge of instrumental music, music theory, conducting techniques, and cultural music traditions
• Experience teaching middle school students and directing instrumental ensembles
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to motivate and inspire young musicians from diverse backgrounds
• Commitment to creating an equitable, supportive learning environment
