About the Role
As Associate General Counsel at an academic medical center, you'll provide legal counsel on matters spanning healthcare delivery, institutional governance, employment law, regulatory compliance, and educational operations. Working alongside the General Counsel and legal team, you'll manage day-to-day legal issues, draft agreements, and counsel on risk management. The position requires sound judgment in balancing institutional needs with legal obligations and stakeholder interests.
What You'll Do
- Advise clinical and administrative leadership on healthcare-related legal matters, including licensing, credentialing, and patient care
- Provide counsel on institutional governance, employment disputes, and contract negotiation
- Assist with regulatory compliance, research ethics, and intellectual property concerns
- Draft and review legal documents, agreements, and compliance policies
- Support litigation strategy and manage outside counsel relationships when needed
- Conduct legal research and maintain current knowledge of healthcare and academic law
What We're Looking For
- Law degree (J.D.) and active license to practice in Nebraska (or ability to obtain)
- Prior legal experience at an academic institution, teaching hospital, healthcare organization, public agency, non-profit entity, or law firm specializing in these sectors
- Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong independent judgment and sound decision-making skills
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with institutional leadership
