Amazon's Boston development center is hiring an Applied Scientist III to design, build, and deploy machine learning and natural language processing systems that impact millions of customers. About the Role

As an Applied Scientist III, you'll own the complete lifecycle of ML and NL initiatives. You'll move beyond experimental work to architect solutions that operate reliably at scale, collaborate across product and engineering teams, and drive measurable business outcomes through advanced analytics and intelligent systems.

What You'll Do

• Architect machine learning and natural language models that solve complex, real-world problems across Amazon's product ecosystem
• Develop rigorous evaluation frameworks, conduct thorough testing, and validate model performance against production metrics
• Deploy scalable analytical solutions using Amazon's infrastructure and data processing platforms
• Iterate continuously on live systems, monitoring performance and implementing improvements based on operational feedback
• Translate business requirements and customer insights into technical specifications for data science initiatives
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team and across Amazon

What We're Looking For

• PhD in computer science, machine learning, statistics, applied mathematics, or equivalent hands-on expertise
• Proven success building and shipping ML or NL systems in production
• Fluency in Python, Java, Scala, or comparable programming languages
• Working knowledge of modern ML frameworks, distributed systems, and cloud computing
• Strong analytical thinking and ability to move between theory and implementation
• Experience collaborating with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional partners
• Genuine curiosity about improving customer experiences through data science
