State Center Community College District is hiring a TEMPORARY Sign Language Interpreter (Flexible-Hour/Year-Round) to provide vital communication access for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students, faculty, and staff across the United States. This full-time, on-site position offers schedule flexibility throughout the year for skilled ASL professionals.

About the Role

Working under general supervision, the TEMPORARY Sign Language Interpreter delivers American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting and transliteration services within classrooms and a wide range of campus environments. You will serve as the communication bridge that ensures equitable access to instruction, meetings, and campus activities for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) community at State Center Community College District.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret and transliterate spoken English into ASL—and ASL into spoken English—for D/HH students, faculty, and staff.
• Facilitate clear communication in lectures, classroom discussions, and academic settings.
• Provide interpreting support in varied non-classroom situations as needed across campus.
• Adapt interpreting style to match the subject matter, participants, and setting.
• Carry out additional related responsibilities as assigned by the District.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting and transliteration.
• Ability to accurately convey academic and technical content in real time.
• Familiarity with the communication needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals in educational environments.
• Capacity to work independently with general supervision while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
• Flexibility to accept assignments on a year-round, flexible-hour basis.
