About the Role
As an Attorney I with the District Attorney's Office, you'll perform substantive legal work that combines courtroom prosecution with detailed legal analysis. Your focus will be prosecuting misdemeanor cases while developing the research, writing, and trial skills essential to a successful career in public service.
What You'll Do
- Prosecute misdemeanor cases assigned to district and municipal courts
- Evaluate cases for prosecution, assessing evidence and legal sufficiency
- Represent the State of Texas in pre-trial conferences, motions hearings, and evidentiary proceedings
- Conduct jury trials and bench trials, presenting evidence and legal arguments
- Research statutes, regulations, and case law to support prosecution strategy
- Draft legal memoranda, motions, court filings, and other legal documents
- Prepare cases for trial, coordinating with law enforcement and witnesses
- Manage assigned caseloads and maintain comprehensive case documentation
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the State Bar of Texas or eligibility to obtain
- Strong legal writing and legal research abilities
- Effective oral communication skills and courtroom presence
- Ability to work under supervision and follow office directives
- Sound professional judgment and commitment to ethical practice
- Capacity to manage a diverse caseload
