The Patient Care Technician Per Diem contributes essential hands-on support to patients under licensed clinical direction. Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and meal support while preserving dignity and privacy.
- Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, and other observational data, promptly notifying the care team of any concerning changes.
- Help with patient mobility, positioning, transfers, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive equipment.
- Respond to call lights and requests in a timely manner, ensuring basic needs are met and comfort is maintained.
- Collect non-invasive specimens, perform simple point-of-care tasks as trained, and correctly label and deliver specimens.
- Keep patient rooms, equipment, and shared spaces clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Transport patients to tests, procedures, or other units while monitoring condition and providing continuous verbal reassurance.
- Document care provided accurately in the electronic record and report observations to the assigned nurse.
- Practice infection-prevention techniques, follow isolation protocols, and uphold safety standards throughout every shift.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current certification as a nursing assistant, patient care technician, or equivalent preferred; willingness to obtain required credentials if needed.
- Basic life support (CPR) certification or ability to obtain it promptly.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, and clinical staff.
- Physical capacity to stand for extended periods, walk frequently, and assist with controlled lifting or turning of adult patients using safe techniques.
