Senior Software Engineer

Mastercard is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for our Pune, India office to design, build, and maintain scalable financial technology solutions. As a senior-level technologist on our platform engineering team, you'll lead complex projects that power secure payment systems and digital commerce innovations for millions of cardholders worldwide.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Pune development center. In this full-time, onsite position, you'll take ownership of high-impact backend and platform services that form the backbone of modern payment infrastructure. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams across product, infrastructure, and security to architect and deliver solutions that meet rigorous performance, reliability, and compliance standards. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and work on problems that directly impact financial services at global scale.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop production-grade software systems using modern development practices, cloud technologies, and industry-standard patterns
• Take end-to-end ownership of features from design through deployment, performance optimization, and operational excellence
• Lead technical reviews, contribute to architectural decisions, and mentor team members on best practices and code quality
• Write well-tested, maintainable code that adheres to security standards and handles high transaction volumes reliably
• Troubleshoot production issues, analyze performance bottlenecks, and implement optimizations across the stack
• Collaborate with product teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions

Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in backend systems, microservices, or platform engineering
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, Go, C++, or similar)
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, databases, APIs, and cloud infrastructure
• Experience designing and implementing systems that prioritize security, scalability, and reliability
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
